A foldable keyboard is the perfect addition to your laptop bag, so that you can make computer use while you travel as comfortable as possible. The problem with most laptop keyboards is that they are very uncomfortable to type on for extended periods of time. In most cases you have to hold your arms into an unnatural position, and if you have a lot of work to do, this can be miserable. A foldable keyboard is a great alternative because they work just like a standard, only they fold into a much smaller shape to make them much easier to transport.
There are a variety of different foldable keyboard options on the market, and the right one for you will depend upon what you’re looking for out of your device. One of the first choices before you, is whether or not you would like a full size keyboard, or a mini version. Full size mimic the way that a regular keyboard feels, so they will be much more comfortable for most people. Mini keyboards are much smaller, and feature keys that almost resemble cell phone buttons, so they can be more difficult to type with if you have a lot of typing to do. But mini keyboards fit in practically any laptop bag, and can easily be folded, or rolled up into a smaller size to make them remarkably convenient.
If you’re looking at full size foldable keyboard options, there are two main types that will attract your interest, hard plastic or soft plastic. Hard plastic keyboards are essentially just a standard full size keyboard, but they feature a joint in the middle of the keys. This joint can be used to fold the keyboard into itself, so that it only takes up half the space, making it easier to transport. This is the best choice if you want to replicate the feel of a standard keyboard, on the road.
A soft plastic foldable keyboard is very different, and features a very pliable material that can be folded or rolled into itself multiple times. This is the most convenient type, and can be stored in remarkably small areas, making them absolutely ideal for travel. However, the keys don’t have a standard clicking motion when you press them. Instead they feel more like a television remote control, and just as with the mini keyboards, if you have a lot of typing to do you may have some difficulty.
When you’re looking to buy any type of foldable keyboard, you can find an option practically anywhere. They are available at computer electronics stores like Best Buy and RadioShack. But you’ll also find portable options at stores like Walmart or Office Depot. That means if you’re already traveling and looking for a suitable option, you’ll be able to find one on the road easily. Typically a mini foldable keyboard will be about the same price as a soft plastic full size board, usually around $20. But a full size hard plastic version is usually around double that price, because of their resemblance to a standard keyboard.
